What does it mean to be an American?
Throughout history being an American has had many meanings. Including but not limited to: religious zealot, outcast, Foreigner, world savior, spoiled brat... Looking at the war in Iraq I realized something, freedoms have made us lazy. Those who are oppressed and held under a thumb fight, or give up. For most of our countries great history we have fought. But with freedom, prevailed and self-reliance we have also learned sloth, gluttony, and fear. I ask the question if as Americans we live easy lives relatively then is there anything in life worth fighting for. As the real Democratic process leader in the modern world we have even lost passion for representation. Did you realize the Iraqi people despite the threat of constant violence voted per capita much more than Americans do. This heir of protection and safety came into question on 9/11 but we have forgotten already. I'm not saying we should be war mongers or even fighting in Iraq I simply ask the question what are we willing to fight for in this life? Anything? In the future how will history judge our generation...? I think at the present rate very poorly....

I think the Gospel is the only thing I would fight for, but that fight would look far different than most. I would fight for the safety of my family - to an extent. I would protect them, I would not join the army, God bless you! I think our generation is seeing that fighting doesn't get you anywhere. I think we are comming to understand that fighting might get me what I want now, but down the road everyone is worse off. Even us spoiled Americans.
And by the way, I don't vote.

Hmm thanks for the comments maybe fighting isn't the right term, though i do like the jesus fight club, What i mean is I guess really giving your all to a cause a getting things done. Fighting to me is sacrifice and commitment two qualities I really think we have un-learned in America.

I agree, I think the only thing most Americans would sacrifice and commit to is self. So sad to me.

I don't know you, but you left a comment for me on my page, so I thought i'd check yours out. I totally agree with what you say about laziness, Americans have no idea what we have. Nothing taught me that more than living in Mexico and marrying a man from Ecuador. Are you still in Iraq?
