If you could only bring one thing...
I know this is kinda over done in general but I think its a good question if you had to move to a crazy Island like on LOST (if you have not seen this show get netflix and get the first season now while you have a chance)? Rules can't be a person, Bible or anything silly like a genie in a bottle... Also has to be realistic like no internet or cable...
Okay me I would bring ummm a hatchet.... okay I stole that from book turned movie but it is a good idea...

I would bring one of those water purifier thingys that backpackers take witht them to clean the river water they drink. that way I can live longer and have a better chance of being rescued.

I would take a magical can of Coke that would never go dry. I would then dream of never being found.

I'd want a good supply of fire-starting materials. I'd probably go old-school and do the flint and steel with a start of dry tender b/c f & s wont run out easily (with a large enough set), I can make a fireplow, but it takes even longer to light a fire than the f & s.
If you have fire you can boil water, which is all you really need (given a desalinized source). If you have only saltwater, a simple destillation device can be fashoned from indiginous materials, but it takes time and experimentation. I can build one that works with solar energy, but it takes FOREVER to process the water.
Sharp pointy things can also be fashoned using fire, you can use those to open coconuts and, supposedly, to fish.
I spent too much time alone as a child.
