Conformity
In my last post I wrote on a type of programming we receive by culture/soceity. I think that we undersestimate the power this programming has on us. I wish i was a better writer because I desperately would like to start writing books on non-conformity. As a child I thought a non-coformist was cool because they were against the man. But as an adult reading walton and thereou I realised it is more about de-programming the mind. It is as we have been programmed about how to think... Though the truth is that independent thought (not sure if there ever can be trully independent thought) is needed to make this world work. In essence though formula's tend to work in the classroom in real life mystery and the unknown mess that up. I just want to ask is there where in life that you think trafitions have held us back as a world? i 'll start the list and add if you want...

CARS<-----------
Too many people drive, its a dependency of the min/spirit that we can't walk around the block every once in a while. Plus it is slowly destroying the world. We have to think about this one peeps.

CLOTHES <----------------
why can't i just go naked??
but seriously though . . . fashion at the dispence of comfort and practicality. i have a closet full of proof that i am programmed to believe that if i don't look just right something is wrong with me as a person and i wont be accepted.
silly.

No self-reliance
Some thing is good about the ability to care of yourself. Something that the average survivor (the series) player is missing. It is not being quick witted or something like that it is knowledge passed down through generations on how to beat mother nature. well we have lost it. I think back to the 50,000 in the superdome, who collectively were killing each other... They didn't remove their own trash or fecis from the public areas. to me this is a duh thing but obviously not to the normal city dweller. Think If I lost my job and my house would I survive. I think all of our answers should be yes. Oh and without looting.

modern comfort and convenience
I feel we have become so programmed that we "deserve" the easy way... power locks, power windows, diswashers, technology in general. We become dependent on all these things and feel cheated if something breaks down.
I think it has given this society an arrogance that is ultimately our downfall.
The two most dangerous words (and flat-out incorrect, in my opinion):
"I deserve..."
(yet i love my little gadgets of convenience...)

Mine goes along with Jessica's.
Sense of entitlement. Most people feel like they deserve everything without wanting to put out the effort to earn it.

Yes we need to try and deprogram entitlement afterall all have fallen short of the glory of God and well you know what that means we all deserve something that isn't power windows

I agree with everyone's assessment of society in that they feel as if they need these luxuries and cannot live without them. I'd like to put the survivor theory to the test and pray for a technological breakdown and a developmental shot in the arm for the human race. I probably sound crazy but imagine if all of america had the common sense to live harmoniously with others and with the earth as did my native american ancestors 300 years ago. At the same time this would "weed out" those who could not live without their material possessions and build communities that work together to take care of those who couldn't help themeselves and we would experience subsistance living for a while... Plus it would most likely get rid of my credit card debt and student loans. Ha ha ha ha ha

It is my belief that all Americans need to live outside of the good ol' USofA for a good year or two. Get some perspective. Learn to think bigger than themselves. Realize that what we consider normal is quite abnormal (cars, expensive clothes, gadgets, etc.)Those outside of our nation don't have everything right, but I've never been so free as when I didn't eat fast food, took the subway/train/bus everywhere, and had no TV or internet connection...may it never ever happen again.
